The Seventh Annual
THE CORPORATE STATE CANADA:
A Women's CEO & Senior Management Summit
October 19, 2010
Bay Adelaide Centre, Toronto

Held on October 19, 2010 at the Bay Adelaide Centre in Toronto, the Seventh Annual The Corporate State Canada: A Women’s CEO & Senior Management Summit drew the most accomplished women leaders from diverse fields of endeavor -- a distinguished and pre-eminent group of executives, authors, professors, and business leaders for one full day of innovative thinking, compelling exploration and valuable networking.
This “Invitation Only” Summit brought together influential women executives -- CEOs, Presidents, EVPs – to debate critical trends re-shaping business in the next decade.

The Corporate State: Canada invites leaders who are strategic thinkers and key decision makers within their companies and communities. This Summit presents an opportunity to examine the decisions we make as business leaders and to look at the key issues we will contend with as we lead our organizations. The Canada Summit is produced in alliance with The Corporate State New York, which launched in 1998 and has sold out each year.

AGENDA

8:00 – 8:45 am REGISTRATION AND CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

8:45 – 9:00 am WELCOME

9:00 – 9:30 am MORNING KEYNOTE
Dr. Sherry Cooper

Executive Vice President and Chief Economist,
BMO Financial Group

9:45 – 10:45 AM:  Roundtable #1 –Future-casting!
Do we need a new model of business education that says “uncertainty” is a fundamental foundation for new leaders? Or should we be more confident that predictive models can forecast more accurately than ever before? In the future, will we really rely on “determinism” as a rational basis for predicting human behaviors?  Or will we decide that “quantifiable” isn’t an accurate predictor?  How soon will we adopt the new mental architecture of “It Depends” and what impact will that have on our organizations: unrest or productivity?

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM:  Roundtable #2 –The DNA of Succession Planning
Can we de-code the rules of corporate advancement and prepare our high-potentials in a new way? What are the under-the-radar secrets that could block a promotion? Are there true leaders at every level of the organization and what’s the trick to discovering them?  Will tomorrow’s leaders need a “beginner’s mentality” in order to deal with ambiguity? Should we begin to measure creativity, initiative, and passion inside of our corporations?  Is the concept of “creative destruction” too radical to accept or do our new leaders have to learn to embrace destabilization to be effective in their roles?

12:00 – 1:30 PM:
Luncheon & Luncheon Keynote –

Rha Goddess, President/CEO, Move The Crowd LLC

1:45 – 2:45 PM:  Roundtable #3 –It’s Raining Men Girls, Hallelujah!
How will the natural talents of girls and women, when properly harvested globally, impact our future and opportunities in third-world countries?  How do we ensure that girls receive the necessary education that is critical to assuming their role in both the local and global economies?  What activities, like micro-lending and local training, are creating significant change and opportunities for females in emerging economies? What is the potential impact of China’s “Missing Generation” of girls in that economy? What might be the smaller grass-roots efforts that larger organizations can be supporting in more robust ways, or are there exciting new ventures we don’t yet hear a lot about? What could we do as women leaders to make a difference in this effort?

3:00 – 4:00 PM:  Roundtable #4 –Energy as the Source
What efforts are in place, and what imperatives have surfaced, to find sources of new and renewable energy? Have we really “imagined” all possible new sources? Are George and Jane Jetson the real models for the future or still light years ahead? How could the new opportunities and solutions change our daily lives as we know it? How will transportation, farming, housing, and industrial production, for example, change? Will different jobs emerge? Will jobs be eradicated?  Will the ends justify the means no matter how expensive? And is that a bad thing? Is it all too late?

4:00 – 4:15 PM: Closing Address

4:30 – 5:30 PM: Closing Cocktail Reception
